Craze for scrap gold
I was growing up and the craze for scrap gold was increasing. It was getting stronger and stronger, especially just after finding some pieces. Long searching made people a bit discourage but every single finding caused some kind of commotion and enthusiasm. Each scrap gold was thoroughly examined. After each finding, there was some kind of celebration which in fact usually came down to drinking. My father took part in all parties, what was annoying for my mother. However, he didnt manage to find a single piece for the first year of the craze. He was getting impatient and frustrated and those negative emotions were more and more common in our house. My mother was complaining that her husband was hardly ever at home and all chores were carried out by her. My father got addicted to the atmosphere of search and the adrenaline it triggered. Everyday my mother was hoping for a scrap gold as it would mean better mood of my dad and better life of us all. We all saw our happy neighbours and their lifestyle after finding a few pieces. They seemed to be less stressed, more easy-going and smiled all the time. Their houses were shiny and newly redecorated, according to the latest trends. We were some kind of jealous and my parents desire for a better life was overwhelming.
